The Gardasil Cervarix HPV Vaccine Survey

Author: 16 Comments Share:
Introducing the third in our series of Real Women. Real Data.TM surveys: The Gardasil Cervarix HPV Vaccine Survey.

At Hormones MatterTM we have covered the Gardasil story many times. We have been struck by the depth and breadth of adverse events experienced by young girls and women who have been given the HPV vaccines. We are concerned by the lack non-industry sponsored data regarding the range, frequency and severity of adverse events. We aim to solve that problem and we need your help.

About Gardasil and Cervarix

Individual reports abound about the dangers of the HPV vaccine, Gardasil. Less is known about Cervarix. Data collected from Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and reported on here, indicates a serious adverse event rate 4.3 per 100,000 doses of Gardasil. Serious adverse events are those that cause death or are life threatening, require hospitalization, cause persistent disability or incapacity and/or require medical treatment to prevent permanent impairment or damage.  This is compared to a death rate of cervical cancer, which according to the WHO stands at 1.7 per 100,0000 cases in the US.

What we don’t know is who is most at risk for these adverse events. Are there particular pre-existing conditions, medications or even menstrual cycle triggers that increase the risk for an adverse event?  What is the full range of side-effects and adverse events, short term and long term? Is either vaccine more risky than the other?  These are questions that must be addressed so that as medical consumers we can make educated decisions about vaccine safety.

We need your help to gather these data.  Please take this survey and share it with your friends, sisters, colleagues and anyone you know who has been given the HPV vaccine. Please post on your Facebook pages and share on Twitter, Linkedin, Reddit and other social media. We will need thousands of women to find the connections. That requires crowdsourcing and sharing amongst women.

Purpose the Gardasil – Cervarix Survey

Women and their physicians need more data about the side-effects of the HPV vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix. There is a lack of data about who is at risk for adverse events and whether certain pre-existing conditions increase one’s risk for an adverse event. There is also a lack of data about the long term health effects of these vaccines. The purpose of this survey is to fill that data void; to learn more about the risks for and nature of adverse events associated with each of the HPV vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix.

Who Should Take the Gardasil Cervarix HPV Vaccine Survey

Girls or women who have been given either vaccine or the parents or other family members of young girls given the vaccine.

We are not currently collecting data on the adverse reactions for men and boys, but intend to launch a separate survey to tackle that population.

How Long Does the Gardasil Cervarix HPV Vaccine Survey Take?

This is a long survey. We felt it was important to assess the full depth, breadth, onset and severity of adverse reactions in order to give parents and women the data they need to make informed medical decisions. This necessitated a longer than desired survey. We estimate it will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete the survey.  We hope, given what is at risk, survey respondents will take the time to complete the entire survey.

Is the Survey Anonymous and Secure?

Yes. We do not collect personal identifying information and the survey is hosted with SSL encryption using a verisign certificate Version 3, 128 bit encryption.

How Will the Data be Used?

To inform future research and women’s health decision-making.

  2. My daughter has anxiety, depression, muscle and joint soreness and has not yet started her period. She just turned 16. Please contact me about alternative treatments to indie the damages of Guardasil. She started her period a couple times then it went away and now I find this info and fear I may have harmed her by allowing the vaccine.

  3. Hi Alicia

My daughter sounds a lot like yours, though without the stomach pains. The crippling migraines, the neurological and cognitive problems and the crippling joint pain and the worst thing has been the thoughts of suicide that overwhelm her when she thinks that her life might be like this from now on. A doctor at the hospital was who told me they thought it was Gardasil that may have caused her problems. Yet they still give the vaccine.

  4. THE GARDASIL LIFE: MY CHILD’S PARALYZED STOMACH AND INCURABLE STOMACH VIRUS

My daughter was an outgoing, super funny, confident, soccer athlete, practicing 3-4 hrs a day. She planned to play HS soccer and move on to college soccer. Autumn was a free spirit and so full of life. Her love for animals and passion to save the mistreated drove her to want to open her own animal shelter. She had dreams, goals and a plan. In January of 2010 she received the series of Gardasil shots. Her second shot was on 3/31 and by 5/10 we had her back to the doctors due to shortness of breath, horrible rib and back pain. That is when our nightmare just kept getting worse. Autumn’s life after Gardasil. Excruciating rib/back pain episodes, unable to stand up straight or breath deeply. Pain episodes lasting as long as 4wks, requiring many ER visits. A mass measuring 6x12x9 found in her abdominal muscle under her rib was thought to possibly be bone cancer. Doctors kept her overnight to do a bone biopsy but morning came and the mass was gone. It literally disappeared overnight, the doctors could give no explanation and conducted no further studies. Constant leg/knee pain, intense muscle contractions, painful joints, chronic congestion, sore throats, ear pain, reoccurring hearing loss, bladder infections, heat sensitivity feeling faint in showers/bath, shortness of breath walking one flight of steps/talking too long, unbearable migraines leaving her screaming in pain, light/sound sensitivity, chest pain, racing heart, lymphadenopathy, tiny cuts bleeding over 20 min, bruising, petechia rash, cold purple feet, heavy menstrual cycles, paralyzing pelvic pain with lumps that come and go, cycles lasting 3 wks or longer. Chronic fatigue, sleeping sometimes 20 hrs a day, night sweats, strange skin sensations, lips going numb, reoccurring rashes covering her body including the mucosa of her mouth/nose making breathing difficult requiring ER visits. Gastroparesis- stomach paralysis causing severe bloating appearing 6 mths pregnant, debilitating pain, no appetite, severe weight loss, weight gain from body going into starvation mode, constant nausea, vomiting blood/bile leaving her begging for mercy, pleading for death. Autumn will live with a stomach virus for the rest of her life, 24/7/365. Can you imagine? Unable to absorb nutrition, malnourishment. Autumn fought hard to keep the life she had prior to Gardasil, but eventually was forced to quit soccer and withdrawal from school. She has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. She suffers from extreme memory loss, anger, insomnia, severely diminished cognitive processes. She has self harmed, cutting and branding her wrist/hips to cope with the suffering she endures daily. Did the benefit outweigh the risk? Absolutely not. So where is the medical community now? They casually say Autumn is a complicated case, offer no answers, and wish us luck. PLEASE SHARE AUTUMN’S STORY TO HELP SAVE ANOTHER CHILD FROM DEVESTATION

    1. Would you like to share your daughter’s story on our site. We cover personal health stories on this and many other topics where folks have been injured by medications or vaccines and develop chronic conditions. These stories serve both to raise awareness and to inform research. They are very important. You can message us directly via the Write for Us link in the footer.

      1. Hi, I am very new to this but we have been trying to diagnose my daughter, Chelsie, for 2 years now. Chelsie began to have symptoms approximately 2 months after recieving her 1st HPV vaccine, we didn’t put anything together until recently when a friend asked me if she had gotten the vaccine and I began to research it. When Chelsie started having symptoms they started out as numbness in her face and right hand. She went to the doctor shortly after telling me that she thought something was wrong with her and I told her to go to the doctor, she was living in Reno at the time. They looked her over and then afterwards asked her if she had started the HPV vaccines, she told them that she had the 1st one but that she didn’t have the follow up ones, so they advised her that she should have them. They proceeded to give her they remaining 2, one in each arm that day. As her symptoms began to worsen , she went through several tests, MRIs , spinal tap, blood tests and cat scans with no diagnosis from any of them. A few months later she was in a car accident and had to move home. She didn’t see another doctor until a few months later, when she had moved in with her boyfriend and had suffered a terrible siezure right after she had gotten to work. They took her to the hospital where they did another MRI and they saw brain demylination. We began to take her to UCSF shortly after to try and get an answer. They did her 1st brain biopsy a month later, it came back inconclusive but not a tumor, cancer, and ruled out several other things but still no answer. a few months later they tried to see if Chemo would work for her and after 4 months, after another MRI and seeing that it was not working , she told them that she wanted to stop it as it was just making her so sick and she had lost 30 pounds. They decided that they wanted to do another, more indepth biopsy at this time, so she had that done, again, no answer, they checked for everything! So they suggested more chemo, which she said no to, so they suggested a plasma exchange that she agreed to and also try the drug Tysabri, which they will be starting soon. I am not too sure about this drug for her but not sure of what else will work. After talking to another mom of a Guardasil injured daughter, it makes me more scared! I did get chelsie to see a natural medicine and we did start her on supplements about 2 months ago. She continues to have trouble speaking, finding the right words to say, walking difficulties in her right leg, her right hand also does not work she has numbness in both the leg and arm. We live in northen California. Any ideas out there?? Please let us know, we are desperate and I just know that the vaccine is the cause of all of this!

        1. Jeannie, I am so sorry for the difficulties you’ve had with your daughter post gardasil. They are not uncommon. Search our site for gardasil and you’ll a number of personal stories regarding both the symptoms and the treatment. We also have number of research articles on the topic under search terms of gardasil, mitochondria, vaccine and others. We’ve built a tremendous archive of information. We’re still figuring it out, but gist is that the vaccine seems to attack mitochondria which then affect a variety of systems/organs through out the body. As far as we can tell, to the extent recovery is possible, and it appears to be for some young women, it is via heavy duty nutrient supplementation and other non-standard treatments. If you are interested and willing, if you share your daughter’s story as a blog post, that will open up more discussion and more feedback from individuals who suffered similarly.

  5. Thank you so much for all your hard work on this issue. I refused the vaccine for my twin boys last year. I am concerned about this year because my friend said her doctor gave it to her boys without her consent and then tried to tell her it was time. My boys have their checkups in mid December. I will be sure to post here there are issues.

  6. My son had a very adverse reaction to the HPV Vaccine and we would be interested in the survey. Are you collecting the data on the boys?

    1. Hi Kathleen,
We’re not yet collecting data on the boys yet. I am hoping to have the male version of the survey up by late September. However, we cover Gardasil stories every month. The next scheduled week of stories will be the week of 9/19. Would you be interested in sharing your son’s story? Since the boys symptoms are likely different than those of the girls, I would be interested in learning more about your son’s symptoms as I create the survey. That way, I can be sure to include all the symptoms. Finally, please sign up for our newsletter, upper right column of blog, so that you can get the announcement when the survey goes live. Thanks.

      1. My son had the shots and now has many health issues. I wish the Dr. had not told him anything about them or gave him the booklet on them. Worst mistake ever!

  7. Dear Hormones Matter,
Is it possible for people outside the USA to complete your survey about reactions to Gardasil and Cervairx HPV vaccines? I am writing from Spain where a number of young women have had serious reactions to the HPV vaccines in Spain. I am certain they / their families would want to participate.
    Best wishes,
    Cathy Chaplin

    1. Yes, however, it is only in English at this time and we do not have the capability of translating. If there volunteers who would be interested in translating, I am happy to work with them to get this study out to as many people as possible. You can email me directly at: info@hormonesmatter.com. Thank you for you question.
